On July 16 Shajjan & Associates and King & Spalding a renowned international law firm sponsored an online training on International Arbitration: Practical Tips and Current Issues. The training was hosted by International Chambers of Commerce Afghanistan (ICC-Afghanistan) and it was marked as first of ICC-Afghanistan’s online webinar series. Saeeq Shajjan, Founder & Managing Partner of Shajjan & Associates, moderated the training. The training covered several crucial topics of international arbitration from general overview of international arbitration to drafting Arbitration Clause, the Arbitration process, enforcing the award and current issues regarding enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Afghanistan.
The online training was launched by the CEO of ICC-Afghanistan, Abdul Qadir Bahman and presented by Luan Tran and Nasrina Bargzie who are leading and authoritative names in the area of international arbitration.
LuanTran partners with King & Spalding’s international arbitration practice, which is recently ranked No. 1 practice worldwide by the Global Arbitration. Luan is also an arbitrator in ICC and SiAC arbitrations. He was a recent member of the board of directors of the AAA/ICDR. Nasrina Bargzie is an Afghan American attorney and she is a 2005 graduate of the University of California Berkeley School of Law. She is an expert in legal writing and research and was a lecturer-in-law at Stanford Law School. Both the presenters and the moderator provided practical tips to help arbitration practitioners understand and tackle current issues of Arbitration in Afghanistan.
The participants were from different areas of legal community including lawyers, arbitrators and case managers and members of ADR and Arbitration Commission of ICC-Afghanistan.
This webinar was designed to equip and familiarize Afghan arbitrators learn nut and bolts of international arbitration and provide them with tools to upgrade their skills and promote institutionalized arbitration in Afghanistan.
